Ram Caves Contest Builds Dream Garages for 3 Lucky Winners

Last year, Ram Trucks announced that it would be sending out designers Timothy Dahl, Brett McKay, and Bob Vila to three lucky Ram owners to give them a proper “Ram Cave.” Every new garage would be built to meet the needs of each winner, whether if it means starting with a bare-bones garage or giving a great garage an extra special touch.

Yesterday, the Ram Trucks channel premiered the videos of all three winners getting their garage makeovers. Timothy Dahl went to meet Lee in Portland and show off the new Ram 1500. Bob Vila headed out to Prior Lake, Minnesota to meet with Rachel, who had won the contest for her father Dan, and show off the Ram 2500. Finally, Brett McKay took off for Maryland with the Ram 3500 to meet with Randy and his family. Randy’s wife had been diagnosed a year ago with breast cancer, and with the new Ram Cave, he will be able to continue his work on Ram Trucks and be closer to his family.

New Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Arriving at Dealerships Soon

The Ram 1500, Chrysler’s big seller of February, has an EcoDiesel version of the popular model coming to dealerships any day now.

When Ram Trucks started taking orders back in February, the first allocation of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel sold out in only a few days. Considering that the Ram 1500 is the first half-ton pickup in the United States to have a diesel option, perhaps Ram Trucks shouldn’t have been surprised at the high demand, but Ram Trucks CEO Reid Bigland was modest in his response, saying, “It’s every truck manufacturer’s dream to have this kind of initial order demand for a product.”

Drivers looking for more power in their truck will not be disappointed. The truck’s 3.0-liter V6 engine from VM Motori, an Italian engine manufacturer, is a perfect pairing of power and new technology, and manufacturing of the truck itself happens in the United States at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesels will be capable of towing up to 9,200 pounds, and its fuel economy is measured at 28 mpg highway.

For those who missed the chance to order their Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, there is no need to worry. Ram Trucks will be opening orders again in March.

Ram Publicizes “Truck of the Year” Award with Ram 1500 Building Wrap

How does Ram celebrate winning Motor Trend’s “Truck of the Year” for two consecutive years? They wrap the Chrysler Group headquarters in a 155-feet-tall picture of the Ram 1500.

In December, Motor Trend announced that the 2014 Ram 1500 had been named “Truck of the Year,” a great honor considering that the 2013 Ram 1500 had won “Truck of the Year” the year before. The Ram Truck brand wanted to celebrate the Ram 1500 and everyone at Ram behind this award-winning truck, and the only way to properly celebrate such an exciting award was to go big with a building wrap on the Chrysler Group LLC headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

The Ram 1500 image on the building wrap is so enormous that it takes up four floors of the building. The windshield alone is 18 feet wide by 4 feet high, and the truck grille is 40 feet wide by 15 feet tall. It took four days to install the wrap on the building, but considering all the drivers seeing it from Interstate 75, the effort was well worth it.

Chrysler Adopts New Universal Towing Testing Standard

Here’s a tidbit about trucks that you may not be aware of, but whenever a truck company talks about towing capability, it’s not a uniformed test amongst the truck makers. Each company has their own version of the test and that is what they are talking about in the talking points when it comes to towing in vehicles. That means that consumer doesn’t have a real comparison point between trucks. That is all changing however, as Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, and Nissan are looking to adopt a universal towing testing system.

Guampdn.com has the full details of what the truck makers are looking to do in the future. They quote Bill Visni, a senior analyst with Edmunds.com as to why this will be so beneficial to buyers. “This is good news for car shoppers. They can compare apples to apples when they buy a new pickup.”

The majority of truck buyers are interested mostly in the towing capability. It is the number that can really influence an owners buying opinion. “People buy pickups to tow and haul,” said Bob Hegbloom, head of Chrysler’s Ram trucks. “These vehicles are tools. This brings a standard into place” to ensure all automakers measure their towing capacity the same way.

The Society of Automotive Engineers has already created a standardized test called J2807. Although the companies agreed to it a few years ago it was only Toyota that used it. The fallout from the test may explain why truck makers were so cold to using the test after initially agreeing to follow it. By testing by J2807, the Tundra’s towing capacity dropped 400 pounds. Moving forward, however, this will be the new standard.

It will definitely aid truck buyers in getting an honest comparison between trucks and their towing capacity. Ram Brings Interactive Experience to 2014 Houston Auto Show

Ram is heading to the 2014 Houston Auto Show in a big way. Ram will be bringing their award-winning and popular vehicles but also an interactive test track. The track will be 25,00-square-feet and will give fans a chance to drive the 2014 Ram 1500.

The track is constructed to give attendees a taste of the capabilities of the Ram 1500. While a professional driver is the one behind the wheel, they are looking to give each passenger the full experience of a Ram truck. One part of the interactive track is known as the Ram Mountain and is set-up with various landscapes and heights.

“We are thrilled to offer these driving courses so consumers can get behind the wheel and experience the impressive capabilities and features of our award winning Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram truck, and FIAT vehicles,” said Michael Curmi, Head of Experiential Marketing with Chrysler Group. “Consumers visiting our driving experiences also have the opportunity to win our national vehicle giveaway contest.”

The 2014 Ram 1500 was recently awarded the “Truck of Texas” for 2013 by the Texas Auto Writers Association. Even MotorTrend magazine named the 1500 their “Truck of the Year” as well.

Ram Wins Truck of the Year from Motor Trend Again!

The Ram 1500 has earned the Motor Trend 2014 Truck of the Year.

Nine trucks were in the finals for getting the award. The judges took a look at trucks that were either new or significantly upgraded this year. That included the Ram 1500, the Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota Tundra, and the new Ram ProMaster van, nine trucks total. Before the end, each of them were put through extensive tests and exercises.

The testing took place at the Continental Tire Automotive Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas. The evaluation took over a week to complete and took a look at qualities such as acceleration and towing. After seeing all the criteria, it was the Ram 1500 that stood triumphant over the competition .
The announcement of the award was given at the birthplace of the Ram truck, the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan. The full breakdown as to how the Ram 1500 did in the test will be revealed in the February issue of Motor Trend as well as on their website.

“For 2014 we had a large and highly competitive field of contenders for Motor Trend?s Truck of the Year,” said Edward Loh, Editor-in-Chief of Motor Trend. “At the end of the day, though, the Ram 1500 quickly rose to the top. Not only did it withstand our rigorous testing, it thoroughly impressed our judges with its vast array of standard and optional equipment, and, most notable, its fuel-efficient, segment-exclusive EcoDiesel V-6. With 420 lb-ft of torque and up to 28 Real MPG highway, the EcoDiesel is a true game-changer. In fact it helped make Ram 1500 the Motor Trend 2014 Truck of the Year and the only consecutive winner in the history of the award.”

Winning the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award is a big deal. The Ram 1500 has been grabbing up the trophies left and right and making it clear that Ram is poised to make a big splash with the new Ram 1500 in the hearts of truck lovers everywhere.

Ram Supports Wounded Warriors and Air Warrior Courage Foundation

In preparation for the holiday season, Ram is starting to give back to those who need it most. In participation with the Wounded Warriors group, they delivered a Ram full of toys and supplies for those in need.

The delivery was made to the Warrior and Family Support Center at the San Antonio Military Medical Center. Ram brought in a 2014 Ram Promaster 2500 filled to the brim with toys, diapers, and other needed supplies for the people being treated by the center. In addition to all the goods, Ram also gave a $25,000 grant from the Air Warrior Courage Foundation.

The Foundation is one of the top charities that works with military personal and provides them with the needed financial support for medical and education purposes.

“We, at Ram, consider it an honor and privilege to provide the Promaster van to support service members and their families who have played a vital role in keeping America safe and free,” Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Ram Truck said just before the donation.

Ram Diesel Engines Provide Higher Fuel Effieciency

Diesel engines have been largely asked for in a Ram truck. It is the main reason why the company is putting them on the market, to finally stoke the fan fervor and see if that can translate to higher sales.

There’s a good reason why so many truck drivers have been asking for a diesel engine in a Ram for so long. One reason is the improved fuel economy. A diesel engine is capable of having 25 percent to 30 percent better fuel economy. However, that boost does come as a double-edged sword. While there might be a better fuel economy, diesel gas is more expensive than normal gas.

Ram hopes to remedy this problem by focusing on a smaller engine still capable of maintaining the efficiency without adding too much extra to the cost.

Ram 3500 Case Edition on Display at SEMA 2013

The SEMA show always has the most interesting project vehicles to see. Chrysler has brought out numerous ones for the public to see and for all the reporting on the Dodge Scat Packages and the such, one of the stranger concept vehicles to see was in the truck category, the Ram 3500 Case in Bulldozer Orange.

What is most surprising about this concept heavy-duty truck is noted by PickupTrucks.com. The branding on the Ram 3500 is ‘Case.’ Case is the name of the heavy-duty agricultural and construction arm of Fiat Industrial. With this name being referenced in the new Ram, it’s clear that they are trying to sell an image of strength and legacy that comes with a name in 30 years of construction machinery work.

Mopar has done a number on this Ram, however. For starters, the Case Ram comes with a set of roof racks for oversized equipment necessary in more heavy duty work. There’s also heavy-duty running boards and splash guards. The hood is a Power Wagon with Case graphics around it.

Ram has been wanting to pick up steam with people by showing how their trucks are meant for heavier business. It’s clear that by presenting this Case Ram 3500, they really want to stick that message home.

Ram Donates 1 Million to FFA as Part of the ‘Year of the Farmer’ Campaign

During the Super Bowl, back in February of this year, Ram declared in one of their ads that 2013 is the “Year of the Farmer.” Sticking to their words, Ram Truck brand presented a donation of 1 million dollars to the 2013 National FFA Convention and Expo this year.

When the “Farmer” ad-spot went live earlier this year, Ram made a pledge. They would donate up to 1 million dollars for views of the video on their website. The views hit 10 million in less than a week.

Since then, the ad has been viewed online more than 22 million times. It’s clear they hit a sweet spot with people.

“It’s so wonderful to see our country rise up and show support for those who work hard every day to provide vital resources to the nation,” said Clay Sapp, President of the National FFA. “The response we’ve received from Ram’s ‘Year of the Farmer’ has been overwhelming, reinforcing the pride we have in our work and what it means to be a farmer.”
