2017 Ram 2500 Diesel Has the Best Fuel Economy

Pickup Trucks has decided to evaluate the fuel economy of heavy-duty pickups.  As they note, fuel economy is not a top priority for some truck owners.  The major talking points when someone is interested in learning about a HD pickup is more along the lines of wanting to know capability and towing.  In doing these tests of fuel economy, PickUp Trucks discovered that the Ram 2500 diesel is a clear winner against the competition.

“As you might expect, the smallest diesel engine on the lightest truck did well on the uploaded fuel-economy drive.”  The 2017 Ram 2500 was put up against the 2017 Nissan Titan XD and other trucks in its segment and managed to beat them out.

Ram Diesel Engine Has High Demand

The move to diesel has been a popular one for Chrysler.  The reason for adding on a diesel engine option was largely due to the demand from consumers.  The addition seems to be paying off for Ram trucks as the demand seems to justify increasing the supply.

Chrysler has sent word to its supplier in Italy to send them more of the V-6 EcoDiesel engines.  It seems that people are not just asking for Ram to provide a diesel option, they are actually buying them as well.  It is refreshing to see that the consumer is wanting something and then going out and buying it rather than patting the company on the back and saying “well, thanks for doing that, I’ll think about getting it now.”

The diesel engine in the Ram full-sized pickups offers better towing and fuel economy than a gas engine.  If you are interested in learning more about the EcoDiesel engine, contact us at Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge.  View our new and used line-up on our website.  Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to see more truck news and our special monthly offers.

Ram Diesel Engines Provide Higher Fuel Effieciency

2013 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty

Diesel engines have been largely asked for in a Ram truck.  It is the main reason why the company is putting them on the market, to finally stoke the fan fervor and see if that can translate to higher sales.

There’s a good reason why so many truck drivers have been asking for a diesel engine in a Ram for so long.  One reason is the improved fuel economy.  A diesel engine is capable of having 25 percent to 30 percent better fuel economy.  However, that boost does come as a double-edged sword.  While there might be a better fuel economy, diesel gas is more expensive than normal gas.

Ram hopes to remedy this problem by focusing on a smaller engine still capable of maintaining the efficiency without adding too much extra to the cost.

Drivers wanting diesel engines want more than just fuel costs though because that diesel also translate to work load.  Towing especially can see a huge boost thanks to the new diesel engines.

2014-Ram-1500-Diesel-pickup-announced1It was the worst-kept secret, but still something fans demanded. The 2014 model of the Ram 1500 will now be offered with a diesel engine!

The diesel engine that will be offered is the same that will be in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine. It’s rated at 240 HP and has 420 lb-ft of torque. According to Auto Evolution, the towing capabilities are comparable to the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 Ram and has improved fuel efficiency. The complete figures have not been fully revealed yet.

The pricing, however, has been shown. The EcoDiesel V6 will run an additional $2,850 to the 1500. The starting price of the 2014 Ram 1500 is $24,200.

For buyers not wanting diesel, the 1500 will still be available with the Pentastar V6 and 5.7 Hemi V8. All of the available engines will have eight-speed automatic transmission.

2014 Ram 1500’s Diesel Engine is Due to Fan Demand

13-ram1500-pv-large-haul-moreThe 2014 Ram 1500 is making a big splash this year by being made available to purchase with a diesel engine.  According to the Stltoday.com, it’s the “first modern-era half-ton to make available diesel power.”

Making the decision to offer this new engine was not a difficult one.  Ram stated that trucks fans have been ‘emphatically asking for it.’

In order to offer a Ram truck with diesel, there will be a new engine, and one not from Cummins.  It will be coming from VM Motori of Cento, which is an Italian company owned by Fiat.  The 3.0-liter V-6 turbo diesel engine will be in the 2014 Ram 1500 and later made available for the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The actual specs of the Ram version have not been made available as of yet, but a comparison is drawn using the Grand Cherokee.  In the Jeep vehicle, the engine is capable of 240 horsepower and 420 lb.ft of torque.  The Ram specs should be revealed sometime this summer.

2 Million Engines Served! Ram Trucks Reaches Milestone

Cummins Inc, the company that makes the engines for Ram trucks has reach one heck of a milestone.  They sure have earned the bragging rights on this one.

Ever since 1988 Cummins Inc has been in charge of making the engines for Ram trucks.  To mark a giant milestone in that partnership, they have produced the 2 millionth diesel engine for the company.

The engine that was made will not be seeing service in any trucks, however.  The 6.7-liter 6 cylinder turbo diesel will be put on show.  Marked by the Cummins Red rocker cover and breather, the 2 millionth engine will be put on tour across the US in a victory dance.

No resting on these laurels, though.  The engine maker is hard at work to make sure that 2013 is their best year yet.  The new models they have planned for the new year will offer the best-in-class torque combined with a 10 percent improvement in fuel-economy.   Other features include a new cooling system that gives an improved durability as well as performance.
