2017 Ram 2500 Diesel Has the Best Fuel Economy

Pickup Trucks has decided to evaluate the fuel economy of heavy-duty pickups.  As they note, fuel economy is not a top priority for some truck owners.  The major talking points when someone is interested in learning about a HD pickup is more along the lines of wanting to know capability and towing.  In doing these tests of fuel economy, PickUp Trucks discovered that the Ram 2500 diesel is a clear winner against the competition.

“As you might expect, the smallest diesel engine on the lightest truck did well on the uploaded fuel-economy drive.”  The 2017 Ram 2500 was put up against the 2017 Nissan Titan XD and other trucks in its segment and managed to beat them out.

Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is Esquire’s Truck of the Year!

Ram 1500 Ext 01 - RamDealerNy

The Ram 1500 is leading the charge to being one of the biggest names in trucks this year.  It has already garnered a lot of praise from the critics and numerous awards including being the Truck of Texas.  Now the trophy shelf is getting a little bigger as Esquire magazine has named the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel their Truck of the Year.

In order to come to the conclusion about the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, Esquires editors made their way through all the possible truck models available in the US market.  They examined each on such traits as value, efficiency, and functionality.  Considering that the 1500 EcoDiesel has the best-in-class fuel economy, it doesn’t seem like it was a hard choice to make.

“This is where the truck tide turns,” reads Esquire magazine’s article.  “a full-sized American pickup with a just-big-enough diesel V6- the only one of its kind.  You get the fuel economy of a small engine, the pull power of a larger one, and the grumble of a working-class diesel.”

“Recognition from Esquire magazine is proof that pickups have found their way into a variety of lifestyles,” said Bob Hegbloom, Ram’s President and CEO.  “In such a competitive market, we are thrilled to earn a ‘Truck of the Year’ from Esquire.  The Ram 1500 delivers with a winning combination of best-in-class fuel economy and capability and going forward, Ram will continue to set the pace with the best trucks in their segments.”

Ram 1500 EcoDiesel’s Fuel Economy Makes it Perfect for Road-Trips

2014-ram-1500_100435147_l

The auto industry tends to be defined by the economy surrounding it. When the economy was booming, many people were wanting the big gas guzzling SUVs. Now that the country is still recovering from recession, buyers want vehicles that burn through as little gas as possible. Fuel economy is a big selling point on major new cars. Even trucks are not exempt from this new attitude. That is why Ram is making a huge deal out of what can be achieved through just one tank of gas in the new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

The road trip that Ram put together for their drivers is to the Grand Canyon. Makes sense, someone traveling with the Ram 1500 is looking to get off the usual places. The mountain environment is perfect for the off-roader in all of us and is a testament to the capability of the EcoDiesel engine.

According to an infographic on the article, Ram is stating that the Ram 1500 Ecodiesel can travel about 650 miles or from Denver, Colorado to Grand Canyon National Park on a single full tank. That’s pretty incredible. Ram is trying to get the point across that the EcoDiesel is providing truck drivers with amazing fuel economy and this really does show it.

Ram even went the extra mile and provided a highlighted number of routes to take on this trip and talked about what to do at both destinations. Take a look for yourself.

AUTOMOBILE Magazine Names Ram 1500 “2014 All-Star”

2014 Ram 1500AUTOMOBILE Magazine has named its 2014 All-Stars, and for the second year in a row, the Ram 1500 has made the prestigious list.

Every year, the magazine chooses 10 vehicle All-Stars, and the list includes a wide range of passenger cars, SUVs, sports cars, trucks, and minivans. AUTOMOBILE Magazine chose the Ram 1500 because it “defies the limitations of a pickup truck, continuing a spirit of innovation that began in the mid-1990s.”

“The list of options and the refine interior rival those of a luxury car,” wrote the AUTOMOBILE Magazine staff. “And a new diesel engine – the only one available on a light-duty pickup – achieves the fuel economy of a mid-size crossover.” The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 28 mpg.

Michael Jordan, West Coast Editor for AUTOMOBILE Magazine, had more praise for the 2014 Ram 1500, stating, “Chrysler doesn’t get the credit it deserves for what it’s done in the truck segment. First, it reinvented the way trucks look with its big-rig grille. Then it was the first to offer a cabin that held more people and more stuff. Later they did a chassis that would both steer and stop, and now they’ve delivered a great ride with air springs.”

The full list of AUTOMOBILE Magazine’s All-Stars is available here.

New Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Arriving at Dealerships Soon

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDieselThe Ram 1500, Chrysler’s big seller of February, has an EcoDiesel version of the popular model coming to dealerships any day now.

When Ram Trucks started taking orders back in February, the first allocation of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel sold out in only a few days. Considering that the Ram 1500 is the first half-ton pickup in the United States to have a diesel option, perhaps Ram Trucks shouldn’t have been surprised at the high demand, but Ram Trucks CEO Reid Bigland was modest in his response, saying, “It’s every truck manufacturer’s dream to have this kind of initial order demand for a product.”

Drivers looking for more power in their truck will not be disappointed. The truck’s 3.0-liter V6 engine from VM Motori, an Italian engine manufacturer, is a perfect pairing of power and new technology, and manufacturing of the truck itself happens in the United States at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesels will be capable of towing up to 9,200 pounds, and its fuel economy is measured at 28 mpg highway.

For those who missed the chance to order their Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, there is no need to worry. Ram Trucks will be opening orders again in March.

Ram Diesel Engines Provide Higher Fuel Effieciency

2013 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty

Diesel engines have been largely asked for in a Ram truck.  It is the main reason why the company is putting them on the market, to finally stoke the fan fervor and see if that can translate to higher sales.

There’s a good reason why so many truck drivers have been asking for a diesel engine in a Ram for so long.  One reason is the improved fuel economy.  A diesel engine is capable of having 25 percent to 30 percent better fuel economy.  However, that boost does come as a double-edged sword.  While there might be a better fuel economy, diesel gas is more expensive than normal gas.

Ram hopes to remedy this problem by focusing on a smaller engine still capable of maintaining the efficiency without adding too much extra to the cost.

Drivers wanting diesel engines want more than just fuel costs though because that diesel also translate to work load.  Towing especially can see a huge boost thanks to the new diesel engines.

Ram Trucks Improve Tech to Improve Fuel Efficiency

2013-ram-1500Gas prices are always a concern whenever it comes to picking out a car.  The recent roller-coaster trend that the gas prices have been going through is disconcerting to anyone.  That price has been a major factor for anyone stepping into a dealership looking for a new or pre-owned car.  For a truck driver, it has to be even more of a concern.  Thankfully, while trucks have been traditionally seen as fuel hogs, Ram is making great endeavors to make their trucks even more fuel efficient.

The Chronicle Herald took a look at how each truck maker is handling this new demand from their customers in having fuel efficient trucks.  Here’s the list of the methods Ram is taking to give their truck drivers the best possible and most fuel efficient trucks.

One type of technology is cylinder deactivation.  In Ram trucks, this is known as the Multi-Displacement System.  All that is fancy speak for making sure the truck isn’t using more cylinders than necessary.  If only four cylinders are needed, then only four are used.  When more force is required more of them will activate.  This in turn helps to save fuel.

Next is the an eight speed transmission.  Other truck builders use six-speed transmissions, but Ram is offering up eight on certain models.  The benefits of this are “Key benefits to having more gears include low highway-cruising revs, improved refinement and enhanced power delivery.”

The last bit of tech being used in Ram trucks to help save you gas is “Variable Valve Timing.”  This is a term that most muscle car drivers will know of.  What this does is let the vehicle’s engine computer system control performance by opening up valves when needed.  The system is constantly making sure fuel efficiency is being properly met.

Ram Heavy Duty Trucks Get New Hemi Engine

ram2500_19As the market has been showing, trucks are very important right now.  Ram is really pushing to take away the sales market from the competition.  In order to do that, they need to make sure people know they have the best trucks on the market.  The critics have been extremely receptive to the 2014 Ram 1500 so far.  The next group of trucks Ram is sprucing up is the Heavy Duty lineup.  Ram will be giving the trucks a more heavy duty engine to make them the most powerful trucks in the class.

The 2014 Heavy Duty Trucks will now have the option of a 6.4-liter Hemi V8.  The engine has only been used by SRT up until now.  Torque News has the full numbers list of what this engine is capable of.  “This new 6.4L truck Hemi packs 410 horsepower at 5,600rpm and 429lb-ft of torque at 4,000rpm…”

Those impressive numbers give the 2014 Ram HD Trucks the edge over the competition.  Neither Ford nor GM has trucks that can match that much power.

Making the engine seem even better is the fact that it has Chrysler’s fuel saver technology.  That makes the engine shut down half of its cylinders when it’s on the highway at cruising speeds.  What this does is provide better fuel economy for truck drivers.

Ram is serious about becoming the name in trucks.  They are seeing the importance of excelling in the market right now and are really appealing to those looking for power in their trucks.

2013 Ram 1500: Built For Stop-and-Start Traffic

ram1500_03Gas prices might be on the decline, but that doesn’t stop anyone from wanting to keep that cost down overall.  Fuel economy is important to drivers.  The recent state of the economy showed just how much the average consumer cared about staying away from the pump as much as possible.  The automakers noticed this.  A major selling point of newer vehicles has been based around fuel efficiency.

That’s here the new 2013 Ram 1500 comes in.  Thanks to the Stop-Start technology it has; drivers will have improved fuel efficiency by 1 mph in city driving.

The Ram 1500 HFE models come with a high-performance starter that includes the Stop-Start system.  That is for both the 3.6L V-6 Pentastar or 5.7L V-8 HEMI engine.

What is the Stop-Start system?  It’s a very smart little do-hickey that stops the engine when the truck is at a complete stop.  A stop is based on the amount of brake pressure the driver puts on the pedal.  That means if you don’t want to stop the engine completely, then you can use soft braking.

This perk is definitely intended for anyone who has to deal with excess traffic.  Anyone who’s driven into New York through any of the tunnels knows how stop and go it can get.  How this system works during these conditions is that the stop-start turns on during the first off.  As long as you stay under 5 mph, the engine continues to run to maintain the heating or AC.  Another awesome aspect is that if the 1500 is stopped for a lengthy period of time and if it detects that the temperature is rising or decreasing, then the engine will restart to turn on the heater or the AC.

No worries about this feature wearing out fast because of what it does.  Yes there’s an additional load of work placed on the starter, alternator, and battery; the components were upgraded to handle it.

Its features like these that are compelling so many to recognize just how amazing the Ram 1500 is.

2 Million Engines Served! Ram Trucks Reaches Milestone

Cummins Inc, the company that makes the engines for Ram trucks has reach one heck of a milestone.  They sure have earned the bragging rights on this one.

Ever since 1988 Cummins Inc has been in charge of making the engines for Ram trucks.  To mark a giant milestone in that partnership, they have produced the 2 millionth diesel engine for the company.

The engine that was made will not be seeing service in any trucks, however.  The 6.7-liter 6 cylinder turbo diesel will be put on show.  Marked by the Cummins Red rocker cover and breather, the 2 millionth engine will be put on tour across the US in a victory dance.

No resting on these laurels, though.  The engine maker is hard at work to make sure that 2013 is their best year yet.  The new models they have planned for the new year will offer the best-in-class torque combined with a 10 percent improvement in fuel-economy.   Other features include a new cooling system that gives an improved durability as well as performance.
