New Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Arriving at Dealerships Soon

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDieselThe Ram 1500, Chrysler’s big seller of February, has an EcoDiesel version of the popular model coming to dealerships any day now.

When Ram Trucks started taking orders back in February, the first allocation of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel sold out in only a few days. Considering that the Ram 1500 is the first half-ton pickup in the United States to have a diesel option, perhaps Ram Trucks shouldn’t have been surprised at the high demand, but Ram Trucks CEO Reid Bigland was modest in his response, saying, “It’s every truck manufacturer’s dream to have this kind of initial order demand for a product.”

Drivers looking for more power in their truck will not be disappointed. The truck’s 3.0-liter V6 engine from VM Motori, an Italian engine manufacturer, is a perfect pairing of power and new technology, and manufacturing of the truck itself happens in the United States at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesels will be capable of towing up to 9,200 pounds, and its fuel economy is measured at 28 mpg highway.

For those who missed the chance to order their Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, there is no need to worry. Ram Trucks will be opening orders again in March.

Ram Publicizes “Truck of the Year” Award with Ram 1500 Building Wrap

Ram 1500 WrapHow does Ram celebrate winning Motor Trend’s “Truck of the Year” for two consecutive years? They wrap the Chrysler Group headquarters in a 155-feet-tall picture of the Ram 1500.

In December, Motor Trend announced that the 2014 Ram 1500 had been named “Truck of the Year,” a great honor considering that the 2013 Ram 1500 had won “Truck of the Year” the year before. The Ram Truck brand wanted to celebrate the Ram 1500 and everyone at Ram behind this award-winning truck, and the only way to properly celebrate such an exciting award was to go big with a building wrap on the Chrysler Group LLC headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

The Ram 1500 image on the building wrap is so enormous that it takes up four floors of the building. The windshield alone is 18 feet wide by 4 feet high, and the truck grille is 40 feet wide by 15 feet tall. It took four days to install the wrap on the building, but considering all the drivers seeing it from Interstate 75, the effort was well worth it.

Ram 1500 Named Automobile Magazine 2013 All-Star

2013-All-Stars-Best-Cars-in-AmericaAutomobile Magazine just announced their All-Stars for 2013, and among their top-honored vehicles was the Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn.

11 vehicles were named 2013 All-Stars and given distinctions like “Hometown Hero” or “Compact for America.” The Ram 1500 and the Audi A7 were designated as the “Houston Rockets.” Jason Harper, who wrote the section of the piece on the Ram 1500, had lots of praise for the truck, calling it “the ultimate in cowboy cool” and “king of the ranch.”

As they put both vehicles through their paces, the Ram 1500 easily beat out the Audi 7 for earning its keep. This is the type of vehicle that can haul more hay, bring back a runaway cow, and take out skeet shooting. Aside from its practicality, though, Harper was also surprised at the attention given to the interior, praising the stitching as “European quality” and noting the lack of “tawdry veneer” in the design.

Ram Donates Trucks, $100,000 to Hurricane Sandy Relief

As the east coast recovers after Hurricane Sandy, Ram Trucks are stepping up and helping in relief efforts.

So far, the popular truck brand has pledged their support for those affected by the storm, and they have donated $100,000 and 20 Ram 1500 trucks to the American Red Cross. Neal Litvack, Chief Development Officer at the American Red Cross, praised Ram for their support, saying, “Through the generosity of its partners such as Ram and Chrysler Group, the American Red Cross is responding with shelter, food, and emotional support, helping families and communities with their most critical needs now, and as they begin to move towards recovery.”

One of the biggest problems facing relief workers is that the areas that need help the most are still not easily accessible, and besides that, these residents need water, food, blankets, medicine, and other necessary supplies. They need a way to transport these supplies efficiently, and that’s why Ram trucks are so important to recovery efforts.

We would like to encourage our readers to donate to the American Red Cross and volunteer with relief efforts if they are physically able. Our friends, family, and neighbors in New York and New Jersey need us right now, and we are so glad to see Ram taking action in the aftermath of this terrible storm.

2012: Year of the Dragon or Year of the Ram?

The 2013 Ram 1500 won’t be available until later this year, but already the popular truck is making headlines with its advanced technology and driver conveniences.

At the 2012 New York International Auto Show, Ram was pushing the tagline “Guts and Glory” for the 2013 Ram 1500, an apt description if I ever heard one. The new model improves the truck in all the ways that drivers care about including better gas mileage, better aerodynamics, a new air suspension system, and updated interiors.

Here are some of the ways the Ram 1500 has been improved.

  • 42 percent boost in horsepower and 13 percent boost in torque
  • Gas mileage has improved 20 percent.
  • High-strength steel is used in the frame of the truck
  • Ram’s revolutionary rotary shifter allows drivers to shift from park to drive with the turn of a knob.
  • The new air suspension system gives drivers the choice between 2 off-road heights, an aerodynamic setting, and a park “kneeling” setting so that shorter drivers have an easier time getting in and out of the car.

To sum up, the new Ram 1500 is lighter, stronger, and more powerful. It made a strong impression at the New York Auto Show, and coming out of 2011 with Ram sales up 22.6 percent, this could be a really amazing year for Ram.

New York Auto Show: 2013 Ram 1500 Brings “Guts and Glory”

At the New York International Auto Show, the 2013 Ram 1500 promised to bring “the guts and the glory,” and they delivered on both fronts with a redesigned 1500 that still has that undeniable Ram signature look.

At the presentation, Ram focused on the notion of going back to the core of the car and beefing up the truck’s “guts” to make a stronger vehicle from the inside-out. What they didn’t mention in the presentation but have advertised elsewhere was that their inside-out approach has made the 1500 more fuel efficient. Supposedly the 2013 Ram 1500 has the best mileage of any full-size pickup truck with a V-6 or V-8 engine.

Another great feature that did not get shown off at the presentation was the truck’s new shifting system. Instead of using a traditional gear shift with automatic transmission trucks, the 2013 Ram 1500 has a shifter knob. The new shifter knob lets people shift from park to reverse, neutral, or drive with the turn of a knob located to the right of the starter. Wired was so impressed with the shifter knob that they gave it a spot on their list Top Ten Biggest Innovations of the New York Auto Show.

While it might seem strange that the higher fuel efficiency and new shifter knob didn’t get featured in the presentation, I think it shows how great the new 2013 Ram 1500 really is. There was so much they wanted to show off about the vehicle that they couldn’t fit it all into a short presentation. The 2013 Ram 1500 won’t go on sale until September, but I predict that Ram 1500 fans will love the merging of new technology with classic style.

Ram Shows “The More You Know, The More You Tow”

For years, Ram has been known for its excellence in towing trucks. With Ram’s wide selection of trucks, however, it can be tough for truck shoppers to figure out which vehicle is best for their needs.

In order to better educate consumers, Ram is offering a new service on their website called “The More You Know, The More You Tow.” Shoppers can find out the max payload, max tow, price, and other specs on each car. They can sort models by regular, quad, or crew as well as choose the box length, type of transmission, and 4X4 or 2X2 wheel drive. Once they narrow it down, they can sort the results by maximum towing, maximum payload, highest price, or lowest price.

All of these features are great, but by far, my favorite feature of their “The More You Tow” tool is their Towing Basics section. They have included definitions for common towing terminology that many people looking at their first towing truck might not know. They also included how much trailers, boats, cars, RVs, construction equipment, building materials and upfits normally weigh, so let’s say that a shopper knows that they need a truck for their boat trailer but don’t know which truck can handle it. By using the Towing Basics with the truck search tool, they can find out which trucks can handle their trailer.

Ram Dakota

The Ram Dakota wants to make sure you get a high level of quality not only out of it’s visual exterior but also from it’s intense performance. It combines an industrial exterior with well rounded capability that brings the best in a midsize pickup. At first glance, you’ll see a chiseled hood that ends in the cross-hair grille signature of Ram trucks. On both ends of the grille are the rectangular headlamps and standard fog lamps. It just gives off the air of a powerful truck that looks like it’s ready to tackle anything the back roads have to throw at you. Want to spice up the look even more, then you can add chrome tubular side steps from Mopar that also have textured stepping surfaces. There’s also the chrome exhaust tip to really give people the impression that your truck means business.

Once the door is opened and you take a gander inside, the first thing that stands out is the seating. Ram wants to make sure that you fall in love at first sight, an easy thing to see with the seat fabric. Available in all sorts of fabrics and colors, from cloth to leather trimmed. No matter the choice, the fabric is engineered to be stain, odor, and anti-static making sure you have the best seating even after time. It seats up to six passengers and the rear bench seats can also fold up to allow for more hauling cargo space.

For the power-train, the Ram Dakota comes with a choice of two engines. With the 4.7 liter V8, it has a high compression ratio with efficient cylinder head port flow. It’s horsepower is 302 and torque is 329 lb-ft. The other available choice is the 3.7 liter Magnum V6 engine. This engine offers electronic throttle control and exhaust gas recirculation that helps to lower emissions. The horsepower this one gives is 210 horsepower and torque is 235 lb-ft. The V8 comes with a 5 speed automatic transmission while the V6 is 4 speed automatic.

The Dakota is a versatile truck meant to appeal both the outdoors man and the causal truck driver. For that person who likes to get off the beaten path and take a jaunt to the Jersey Shore for a boat ride, the Dakota has the best in class maximum towing of up to 7200 lbs. Not enough, well then the Dakota also happens to be the best in class for maximum payload. You can bring your boat and plenty of gear in the back for camping or what not along with you with the truck being able to hold up to 1800 pounds. There’s also a two inch receiver available through Mopar.

The Dakota definitely encourages going off road. Not to worry though, the Dakota is built to handle like a dream. If you’re dealing with snow on the road to Atlantic City, no problem because the Dakota has an available anti-lock brake system to help keep you in control when the road isn’t at it’s best. There’s also an available anti-spin rear differential meant to transfer the torque better to the wheels to keep better traction. The wheel options go from 16 inches to 18 inches. Every wheel is designed to be both stylish and efficient, like the Dakota itself.

Safety is a major factor in the Dakota, with just as much effort put into keeping you and anyone tagging along for the ride as was into the design of the truck. All the handling options keep the Dakota on the road during the harshest of weather, be it snow or rain. Also included for protection is the multistage airbags for the driver and front passenger. They compliment the supplemental side curtain airbags that give an extra layer of security to the two rows of seating. The trucks frame design includes crush zones to absorb energy. All this combines to ensure that you’re safe at all times.

Ram Cargo Van

The Ram Cargo Van has been built to meet the needs of anyone who needs room. Ram wants to convince you that having a van for a business vehicle shouldn’t be impractical. If you have a business that demands large quantities of a good to be transported throughout the boroughs, be it from Queens to Staten Island, but don’t want to trouble yourself with a traditional panel van, this is the ride for you. Built specifically for easy access and efficiency all while allowing for maximum cargo capacity. It gives three easy ways of getting to your cargo with the manual dual sliding rear doors and a read lift gate. With the sliding doors, that means if you are forced to park in a place that doesn’t allow for easy access to the rear lift gate (and being in New York, that happens frequently) you can still get to what you need. The lift gate lifts high, making it very easy to get what you need without worrying about bonking your head. It’s also illuminated. To help ensure ease and safety for you, the rear lift gate has gas props that hold it firmly in place and is closed with fingertip ease.

For a vehicle like this, Ram understands that in order to stand out to the customer, that it’s all about cargo size. That’s why the Ram Cargo Van comes with space of 144.4 cubic feet. That’s got it’s competitor the Ford Transit Connect, which has 129.6 cubic feet, by almost 15 cubic feet. It also beats Ford in the area of cargo load floor area by 12 square feet, the Ram C/V having 42.6 while Ford only has 30.1. To help make sure that the vehicle matches the workload, there are plenty of options available to tailor make it to suiting your needs. One such accessories is the Mopar cargo wall that sits behind the seats to protect against any shifting the cargo may do. Another is an optional flat floor complete with storage bins for more room without losing floor space. There’s even a removable multipurpose roof rack kit.

With all this effort put into maintaining such a spacious ride, it’s a good thing to know that Ram didn’t spare any expense to make sure the driver and a passenger still get to enjoy a comfortable ride. Soft touch material is all around the cabin giving a nice feeling to anyone stuck behind the wheel during a downtown rush hour. The steering wheel is leather wrapped and comes complete with audio controls. It also features standard tilt and telescoping steering column. Storage extends to the here as well, with an open bin in the lower instrument panel and a dual glove-box. To almost an absurd degree at this point, there’s even an overhead console with cargo compartment mirror. The Ram C/V wants to ensure that while you have everything you need under one roof, it doesn’t leave you feeling like there’s no room for the driver.

The engine pumping life into into the Cargo Van is a 3.6 liter with 283 horsepower with multi speed automatic transmission. For the fuel economy, the Cargo Van has the Best-In-Class range of 500 miles. That means should your business duties take you into Manhattan, then you’ll be getting 17 miles per gallon in the city and if that same trip takes you out onto the highway then you’ll be getting 25 miles per gallon on that extended trip. This is all done with a 20 gallon tank.

Ram also makes sure that you are just as protected as any cargo riding behind you. With a unitized steel construction in all the body panels, the Ram C/V is a durable beast that gives all the strength and protection of a panel van but still manages utility. For the driver and passenger, the C/V has multistage airbags that have three different speeds of deployment dependent upon the impact. There’s also supplemental side curtain airbags that work for every row. There is also an available rear back up camera to help you park in those tighter situations and help hooking up a trailer.
