AUTOMOBILE Magazine Names Ram 1500 “2014 All-Star”

2014 Ram 1500AUTOMOBILE Magazine has named its 2014 All-Stars, and for the second year in a row, the Ram 1500 has made the prestigious list.

Every year, the magazine chooses 10 vehicle All-Stars, and the list includes a wide range of passenger cars, SUVs, sports cars, trucks, and minivans. AUTOMOBILE Magazine chose the Ram 1500 because it “defies the limitations of a pickup truck, continuing a spirit of innovation that began in the mid-1990s.”

“The list of options and the refine interior rival those of a luxury car,” wrote the AUTOMOBILE Magazine staff. “And a new diesel engine – the only one available on a light-duty pickup – achieves the fuel economy of a mid-size crossover.” The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 28 mpg.

Michael Jordan, West Coast Editor for AUTOMOBILE Magazine, had more praise for the 2014 Ram 1500, stating, “Chrysler doesn’t get the credit it deserves for what it’s done in the truck segment. First, it reinvented the way trucks look with its big-rig grille. Then it was the first to offer a cabin that held more people and more stuff. Later they did a chassis that would both steer and stop, and now they’ve delivered a great ride with air springs.”

2014 Ram Heavy Duty BlackRam Trucks announced this week that the popular Black Express package, which was formerly only available for the Ram 1500 package, will now be available for the Ram Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500 SRW.

Some of the features of the 2014 Ram Heavy Duty Black package include an all-black exterior, 20-inch black aluminum wheels, fog lamps, black grille surrounded with black horizontal inserts. The dark front and rear bumpers and the head badges complete the look. Obviously it isn’t called the “Black package” for nothing. New Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Arriving at Dealerships Soon

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDieselThe Ram 1500, Chrysler’s big seller of February, has an EcoDiesel version of the popular model coming to dealerships any day now.

When Ram Trucks started taking orders back in February, the first allocation of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel sold out in only a few days. Considering that the Ram 1500 is the first half-ton pickup in the United States to have a diesel option, perhaps Ram Trucks shouldn’t have been surprised at the high demand, but Ram Trucks CEO Reid Bigland was modest in his response, saying, “It’s every truck manufacturer’s dream to have this kind of initial order demand for a product.”

Drivers looking for more power in their truck will not be disappointed. The truck’s 3.0-liter V6 engine from VM Motori, an Italian engine manufacturer, is a perfect pairing of power and new technology, and manufacturing of the truck itself happens in the United States at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesels will be capable of towing up to 9,200 pounds, and its fuel economy is measured at 28 mpg highway.

For those who missed the chance to order their Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, there is no need to worry. Ram Trucks will be opening orders again in March.

2013 Ram 3500 Has the Best Towing of Any Other Truck

12_HD_photogallery_15If you have a big haul then you will be needing the truck that can handle it. The Ram Heavy Duty truck is just the vehicle for the job. In fact, none of the competition can provide the same capability in 2013 that Ram can.

To prove the point, the 2013 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty truck can deliver 30,000 pounds of trailer capacity. That’s three and a half tons greater than any other truck on the market. The closet the competition can get is 23,100 lbs maximum. That’s not all the 3500 can do. The Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 37,600 pounds is greater than the 30,500 lbs that the competition has. There’s no doubt that the Ram 3500 Heavy Duty is the

That power comes from the upgraded 6.7 liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. It’s also thanks to the Ram 3500’s new high strength steel frame and a higher-load transmission.

“Towing capability, reliability, and engine performance are ranked first through third, respectively with HD customers,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO of Ram Truck Brand. “The 2013 Ram Heavy Duty trucks unequivocally deliver all those things, as well as a very low total cost of ownership.”

2 Million Engines Served! Ram Trucks Reaches Milestone

Cummins Inc, the company that makes the engines for Ram trucks has reach one heck of a milestone.  They sure have earned the bragging rights on this one.

Ever since 1988 Cummins Inc has been in charge of making the engines for Ram trucks.  To mark a giant milestone in that partnership, they have produced the 2 millionth diesel engine for the company.

The engine that was made will not be seeing service in any trucks, however.  The 6.7-liter 6 cylinder turbo diesel will be put on show.  Marked by the Cummins Red rocker cover and breather, the 2 millionth engine will be put on tour across the US in a victory dance.

No resting on these laurels, though.  The engine maker is hard at work to make sure that 2013 is their best year yet.  The new models they have planned for the new year will offer the best-in-class torque combined with a 10 percent improvement in fuel-economy.   Other features include a new cooling system that gives an improved durability as well as performance.

2012: Year of the Dragon or Year of the Ram?

The 2013 Ram 1500 won’t be available until later this year, but already the popular truck is making headlines with its advanced technology and driver conveniences.

At the 2012 New York International Auto Show, Ram was pushing the tagline “Guts and Glory” for the 2013 Ram 1500, an apt description if I ever heard one. The new model improves the truck in all the ways that drivers care about including better gas mileage, better aerodynamics, a new air suspension system, and updated interiors.

Here are some of the ways the Ram 1500 has been improved.

  • 42 percent boost in horsepower and 13 percent boost in torque
  • Gas mileage has improved 20 percent.
  • High-strength steel is used in the frame of the truck
  • Ram’s revolutionary rotary shifter allows drivers to shift from park to drive with the turn of a knob.
  • The new air suspension system gives drivers the choice between 2 off-road heights, an aerodynamic setting, and a park “kneeling” setting so that shorter drivers have an easier time getting in and out of the car.

To sum up, the new Ram 1500 is lighter, stronger, and more powerful. It made a strong impression at the New York Auto Show, and coming out of 2011 with Ram sales up 22.6 percent, this could be a really amazing year for Ram.

New York Auto Show: 2013 Ram 1500 Brings “Guts and Glory”

At the New York International Auto Show, the 2013 Ram 1500 promised to bring “the guts and the glory,” and they delivered on both fronts with a redesigned 1500 that still has that undeniable Ram signature look.

At the presentation, Ram focused on the notion of going back to the core of the car and beefing up the truck’s “guts” to make a stronger vehicle from the inside-out. What they didn’t mention in the presentation but have advertised elsewhere was that their inside-out approach has made the 1500 more fuel efficient. Supposedly the 2013 Ram 1500 has the best mileage of any full-size pickup truck with a V-6 or V-8 engine.

Another great feature that did not get shown off at the presentation was the truck’s new shifting system. Instead of using a traditional gear shift with automatic transmission trucks, the 2013 Ram 1500 has a shifter knob. The new shifter knob lets people shift from park to reverse, neutral, or drive with the turn of a knob located to the right of the starter. Wired was so impressed with the shifter knob that they gave it a spot on their list Top Ten Biggest Innovations of the New York Auto Show.

While it might seem strange that the higher fuel efficiency and new shifter knob didn’t get featured in the presentation, I think it shows how great the new 2013 Ram 1500 really is. There was so much they wanted to show off about the vehicle that they couldn’t fit it all into a short presentation. The 2013 Ram 1500 won’t go on sale until September, but I predict that Ram 1500 fans will love the merging of new technology with classic style.

Ram Chassis Cab

The truck for the heavy duty worker is here in the multiple form of the Ram Chassis Cab with the Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500. All are available to help anyone who needs to get the job done and wants to do it with style and strength.

The exterior sports a rugged design that plays to an observers eyes while still making sure to show that this is a Ram Chassis Cab and is made for business. It all starts when the wandering eye finds the grille, it’s the signature Ram Truck grille that’s famous for its design. If you want it to jump out even more, then it comes in chrome. The next jump out part is the louvered hood that keeps the truck both ventilated for the engine and aerodynamic to keep a solid fuel economy. The most apparent part in the trucks design is the flat stop surface of the frame design. This flat top surface makes it so the need for spacers is reduced and makes installation easier. For anyone looking to buy for business, the cherry on the top of this truck is the available color schemes to aid in any business needs, be it for construction or a landscaping service there is a color for it.

The best part about driving away in a Ram Chassis Cab would have to be that the interior is perfectly crafted to allow for maximum comfort in a truck built for performance. The dashboard is built with soft-touch materials and this extends to the armrests. The command center of the truck is proudly displayed on the instrument panel with items such as fuel and battery level all surrounded by a stylish chrome ring. Another amazing feature that was just added to the Ram Chassis Cab is the class exclusive heated steering wheel for those tough jobs on a cold winter day. For a more relaxed ride, the trucks come available with the Laramie premium leather seating. Heating is available to make a sweet deal even sweeter. Another added perk for the working man is the fabric used in the seating that is designed to be resistant to stains, odors, and static.

A Ram Chassis Cab wants to make sure you have the furthest travel without the need to gas up. With this is mind, a standard 52 gallon fuel tank is in it’s trucks giving the best-in-class single fuel tank capacity. If that’s not enough then there’s an easily accessible auxiliary fuel port for auxiliary fuel-driven power sources. Then there’s the fact that with the Ram 4500 and 5500 with the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine that Ram is the only truck manufacturer to offer a 50-state emissions package that allows driver to be idle without worrying about the time restrictions in ARB (Air Resource Board) states.

Speaking of engines, the Ram Chassis Cab comes with 2 possible choices. The first is the 6.7 liter Cummins Turbo Diesel that was mentioned earlier. It has a horsepower of 305 and 610 lb-ft of torque. This engine has a six speed manual transmission and six speed automatic. The other available engine is the HEMI V8 5.7L. In contrast, this one has 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque with a six-speed automatic transmission. This means it has the best in class horsepower. Both of these engines are out to make sure that you have the most power no matter what job you’re on.

The Ram Chassis Cab comes complete with numerous features designed to add convenience. For starters, there’s the electronic vehicle information center, which turns the truck’s cab into a commando center. From here, the dashboard read outs give the driver every vital piece of information you will need to ensure the truck is running smoothly and properly. It will display the engine coolant/transmission/ and oil temperatures, average fuel economy, the DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) warnings, and even outside temperature. The Ram Chassis is all about making sure you’re constantly aware about what is going on with the truck in order to make sure you can take care of any issues before they become a problem.

The Chassis is built to be strong on the road and with any load, but it’s also made to be sure to stay safe. It all starts with the safety cage that has crumple zones and side door beams built into the body cage that provides structural safety. These points absorb the force of an impact in a controlled manner that makes sure to keep the integrity of the cabin if an accident does occur. This is also aided by the fact the Chassis has dual front impact airbags and ABS brakes. No matter what’s being hauled, you’ll be safe behind the wheel.

Ram Cargo Van

The Ram Cargo Van has been built to meet the needs of anyone who needs room. Ram wants to convince you that having a van for a business vehicle shouldn’t be impractical. If you have a business that demands large quantities of a good to be transported throughout the boroughs, be it from Queens to Staten Island, but don’t want to trouble yourself with a traditional panel van, this is the ride for you. Built specifically for easy access and efficiency all while allowing for maximum cargo capacity. It gives three easy ways of getting to your cargo with the manual dual sliding rear doors and a read lift gate. With the sliding doors, that means if you are forced to park in a place that doesn’t allow for easy access to the rear lift gate (and being in New York, that happens frequently) you can still get to what you need. The lift gate lifts high, making it very easy to get what you need without worrying about bonking your head. It’s also illuminated. To help ensure ease and safety for you, the rear lift gate has gas props that hold it firmly in place and is closed with fingertip ease.

For a vehicle like this, Ram understands that in order to stand out to the customer, that it’s all about cargo size. That’s why the Ram Cargo Van comes with space of 144.4 cubic feet. That’s got it’s competitor the Ford Transit Connect, which has 129.6 cubic feet, by almost 15 cubic feet. It also beats Ford in the area of cargo load floor area by 12 square feet, the Ram C/V having 42.6 while Ford only has 30.1. To help make sure that the vehicle matches the workload, there are plenty of options available to tailor make it to suiting your needs. One such accessories is the Mopar cargo wall that sits behind the seats to protect against any shifting the cargo may do. Another is an optional flat floor complete with storage bins for more room without losing floor space. There’s even a removable multipurpose roof rack kit.

With all this effort put into maintaining such a spacious ride, it’s a good thing to know that Ram didn’t spare any expense to make sure the driver and a passenger still get to enjoy a comfortable ride. Soft touch material is all around the cabin giving a nice feeling to anyone stuck behind the wheel during a downtown rush hour. The steering wheel is leather wrapped and comes complete with audio controls. It also features standard tilt and telescoping steering column. Storage extends to the here as well, with an open bin in the lower instrument panel and a dual glove-box. To almost an absurd degree at this point, there’s even an overhead console with cargo compartment mirror. The Ram C/V wants to ensure that while you have everything you need under one roof, it doesn’t leave you feeling like there’s no room for the driver.

The engine pumping life into into the Cargo Van is a 3.6 liter with 283 horsepower with multi speed automatic transmission. For the fuel economy, the Cargo Van has the Best-In-Class range of 500 miles. That means should your business duties take you into Manhattan, then you’ll be getting 17 miles per gallon in the city and if that same trip takes you out onto the highway then you’ll be getting 25 miles per gallon on that extended trip. This is all done with a 20 gallon tank.

Ram also makes sure that you are just as protected as any cargo riding behind you. With a unitized steel construction in all the body panels, the Ram C/V is a durable beast that gives all the strength and protection of a panel van but still manages utility. For the driver and passenger, the C/V has multistage airbags that have three different speeds of deployment dependent upon the impact. There’s also supplemental side curtain airbags that work for every row. There is also an available rear back up camera to help you park in those tighter situations and help hooking up a trailer.
