Ram Sales Increasing, Silverado’s Decreasing

ram1500_02

Ram has been pushing the notion that they are ready to be the top of the truck world. They’ve been aiming high and looking to replace Ford and Toyota as the ones with the best truck on the market. The 2014 Ram 1500 has been making a lot of waves in that sense. Recently, it was named the “Truck of Texas” and has been earning praise from critics all over. It appears all that hype is having an impact on the market as the demand for Ram is increasing while other truck makers are seeing their sales shrink.

Automotive News breaks down how Ram is doing in the overall truck market. The Silverado has been having a tough time starting out 2014 in a right way. The sale figures are down 15 percent for January and February. In comparison, Ram’s sales have increased 24 percent.

The gap between the Silverado and Ram is a sizable one, but one that is decreasing with each passing month. Ram in general has successfully been creeping up on the truck giants and their lead. According to Autodata Corp, “Ram has doubled sales and increased its share of the U.S. truck segment.” On the flip side, GM is down by 3.4 percent. GM’s belief is that the sales of the Silverado are down due to a limit on incentives.

Ram Caves Contest Builds Dream Garages for 3 Lucky Winners

Ram Caves

Last year, Ram Trucks announced that it would be sending out designers Timothy Dahl, Brett McKay, and Bob Vila to three lucky Ram owners to give them a proper “Ram Cave.” Every new garage would be built to meet the needs of each winner, whether if it means starting with a bare-bones garage or giving a great garage an extra special touch.

Yesterday, the Ram Trucks channel premiered the videos of all three winners getting their garage makeovers. Timothy Dahl went to meet Lee in Portland and show off the new Ram 1500. Bob Vila headed out to Prior Lake, Minnesota to meet with Rachel, who had won the contest for her father Dan, and show off the Ram 2500. Finally, Brett McKay took off for Maryland with the Ram 3500 to meet with Randy and his family. Randy’s wife had been diagnosed a year ago with breast cancer, and with the new Ram Cave, he will be able to continue his work on Ram Trucks and be closer to his family.

New Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Arriving at Dealerships Soon

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDieselThe Ram 1500, Chrysler’s big seller of February, has an EcoDiesel version of the popular model coming to dealerships any day now.

When Ram Trucks started taking orders back in February, the first allocation of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel sold out in only a few days. Considering that the Ram 1500 is the first half-ton pickup in the United States to have a diesel option, perhaps Ram Trucks shouldn’t have been surprised at the high demand, but Ram Trucks CEO Reid Bigland was modest in his response, saying, “It’s every truck manufacturer’s dream to have this kind of initial order demand for a product.”

Drivers looking for more power in their truck will not be disappointed. The truck’s 3.0-liter V6 engine from VM Motori, an Italian engine manufacturer, is a perfect pairing of power and new technology, and manufacturing of the truck itself happens in the United States at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesels will be capable of towing up to 9,200 pounds, and its fuel economy is measured at 28 mpg highway.

For those who missed the chance to order their Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, there is no need to worry. Ram Trucks will be opening orders again in March.

Ram Publicizes “Truck of the Year” Award with Ram 1500 Building Wrap

Ram 1500 WrapHow does Ram celebrate winning Motor Trend’s “Truck of the Year” for two consecutive years? They wrap the Chrysler Group headquarters in a 155-feet-tall picture of the Ram 1500.

In December, Motor Trend announced that the 2014 Ram 1500 had been named “Truck of the Year,” a great honor considering that the 2013 Ram 1500 had won “Truck of the Year” the year before. The Ram Truck brand wanted to celebrate the Ram 1500 and everyone at Ram behind this award-winning truck, and the only way to properly celebrate such an exciting award was to go big with a building wrap on the Chrysler Group LLC headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

The Ram 1500 image on the building wrap is so enormous that it takes up four floors of the building. The windshield alone is 18 feet wide by 4 feet high, and the truck grille is 40 feet wide by 15 feet tall. It took four days to install the wrap on the building, but considering all the drivers seeing it from Interstate 75, the effort was well worth it.

Ram 3500 Case Edition on Display at SEMA 2013

ram3500_exterior_13

The SEMA show always has the most interesting project vehicles to see. Chrysler has brought out numerous ones for the public to see and for all the reporting on the Dodge Scat Packages and the such, one of the stranger concept vehicles to see was in the truck category, the Ram 3500 Case in Bulldozer Orange.

What is most surprising about this concept heavy-duty truck is noted by PickupTrucks.com. The branding on the Ram 3500 is ‘Case.’ Case is the name of the heavy-duty agricultural and construction arm of Fiat Industrial. With this name being referenced in the new Ram, it’s clear that they are trying to sell an image of strength and legacy that comes with a name in 30 years of construction machinery work.

Mopar has done a number on this Ram, however. For starters, the Case Ram comes with a set of roof racks for oversized equipment necessary in more heavy duty work. There’s also heavy-duty running boards and splash guards. The hood is a Power Wagon with Case graphics around it.

Ram has been wanting to pick up steam with people by showing how their trucks are meant for heavier business. It’s clear that by presenting this Case Ram 3500, they really want to stick that message home.

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is the Truck of Texas!

2014Ram1500EcoDiesel

The truck drivers down in Texas have spoken loud and clear which truck they consider to be the best.  For the third time year in a row, the truck of Texas is the Ram 1500.

The members of the Texas Auto Writers Association met at the Texas Truck Rodeo in San Antonio for a singular purpose, besides enjoying the rodeo and trucks of course.  That goal was to choose their favorite pickups of the year.

At this year’s 23rd Texas Truck Rodeo, the TAWA gave the win for their top honor to the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

What’s even more exciting news is that in the remaining categories, of which there are nine, Ram won the award in all but one.  The wholly new and redefined 2014 Chevy Silverado left with nadda.

The Ram 1500 is a magnet for praise and awards and it comes as no surprise that truck drivers in Texas wouldn’t recognize the qualities in the truck.  It seems they’ve really taken a liking to the new EcoDiesel engine, proving to the folks at Ram one more time that including a diesel engine in their headline truck was finally a good idea.

Demand for 2014 Ram 1500 Eco Diesel Engine is Through the Roof!

2013 Ram 2500

When launching a new type of engine, there’s bound to be a lot of concerns. There is all kinds of issues that could pop up. But if the major concern is meeting with the demand, that’s a pretty positive one to have.

That is just what Ram is worried about with the upcoming release of the Eco Diesel engine for the 2014 Ram 1500. Ever since the truck company announced the engine back in June, they’ve been getting swamped with people wanting it.

Dave Sowers, Ram’s Marketing President, explained to Edmunds that they believed there would be a small portion of people interested, not the mass that came out following the announcement. That is making the truck company worry that they won’t be able to have the supply of the Eco Diesel engine keep up with the demand.

The Eco Diesel engine for the 2014 Ram 1500 is the first time a diesel engine has been placed in a light duty pickup. It’s something that fans have been clamoring for, hence the reason why there was so much excitement when Ram finally answered that call. Now they just to be able to find the capability to keep up with what the public wants.

2013 Ram 1500 Gets Consumer Report’s Love

ram1500_02

Consumer Reports put the 2014 Ford Silverado and the 2013 Ram 1500 in a head to head competition to see which one is the better truck. The results showed that both compared very favorably to each other but the final verdict is a tad surprising as the winner may not necessarily be the best.

In the end, the winner of Consumer Reports truck battle was the 2014 Ford Silverado, but it came with a caveat. While they were ready to say that the Silverado is the better of the two, they actually ended up recommending the 2013 Ram 1500 overall as the better daily driver.

The 2013 Ram 1500 held its own against the Silverado, losing only slightly in the amount of towing power and cargo space in the rear cargo bed. However, the Ram 1500, tested with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, delivered on having a smooth drive thanks to the eight-speed transmission. The acceleration was noted as being better than the Silverado’s.

“The reality is that you can’t go wrong with either one. Both are capable trucks that get decent gas mileage and are as quiet inside as a good luxury car,” said Jake Fisher, Consumer Report’s director of automotive testing.

Ram Trucks Improve Tech to Improve Fuel Efficiency

2013-ram-1500Gas prices are always a concern whenever it comes to picking out a car.  The recent roller-coaster trend that the gas prices have been going through is disconcerting to anyone.  That price has been a major factor for anyone stepping into a dealership looking for a new or pre-owned car.  For a truck driver, it has to be even more of a concern.  Thankfully, while trucks have been traditionally seen as fuel hogs, Ram is making great endeavors to make their trucks even more fuel efficient.

The Chronicle Herald took a look at how each truck maker is handling this new demand from their customers in having fuel efficient trucks.  Here’s the list of the methods Ram is taking to give their truck drivers the best possible and most fuel efficient trucks.

One type of technology is cylinder deactivation.  In Ram trucks, this is known as the Multi-Displacement System.  All that is fancy speak for making sure the truck isn’t using more cylinders than necessary.  If only four cylinders are needed, then only four are used.  When more force is required more of them will activate.  This in turn helps to save fuel.

Next is the an eight speed transmission.  Other truck builders use six-speed transmissions, but Ram is offering up eight on certain models.  The benefits of this are “Key benefits to having more gears include low highway-cruising revs, improved refinement and enhanced power delivery.”

The last bit of tech being used in Ram trucks to help save you gas is “Variable Valve Timing.”  This is a term that most muscle car drivers will know of.  What this does is let the vehicle’s engine computer system control performance by opening up valves when needed.  The system is constantly making sure fuel efficiency is being properly met.

Ram Trucks Heats up the Commercial Truck Segment

ram_promaster_02Trucks have an odd dual life attached to them. Sure everyone likes to drive a car that looks good, but trucks need to be able to do their duty as a heavy duty mover. That’s what commercial vehicles are all about, trading in the frill and good looks for providing the highest quality performance. With the 2013 Ram 1500 being such a success with fans and critics, Ram is setting their sights on providing competition to Ford and General Motors with commercial vehicles.

Currently, both Ford and General Motors dominate in this field. They have almost 90 percent of the market with Ram picking up the rest. The economy is improving and companies are looking at their fleets in need of updating.

Ram is introducing a new commercial truck, a downsized cargo van based off the Fiat Doblo, later next year.

It’s clear for truck sellers that this will be a major market over the course of the next few years. Truck builders are certainly concentrating on providing solid competition amongst themselves. When that happens, the consumer wins.
