2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel: Autos.ca Review

ram1500_exterior_01

James Bergeron, writing for Autos.ca, was given the chance to give the new 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel a spin over the course of 4 days.

On the first day, he examined the features of the tester model that he was given.  The overall value for the equipment that he was given came out to almost $70,000!  That includes navigation, rear backup camera, the RAMBOX cargo system, and a ton more things.

Day two consisted of him loading up the 1500.  He notes that the Rambox was able to comfortable store his laptop bag, extra clothes, and even another tool bag.  His major focus on the second day evaluation is to the interior of the 1500.  The front seats, while meant for larger people, were still comfortable thanks to the large amount of features, such as adjustable seats and pedals.  A normal problem with trucks is the lack of room and comfort for anyone riding in the backseat.  The 1500 does not have this issue, offering a large enough area for people to have a happy ride or to store larger things.  For the person with enough stuff to lug around, the flat floor allows for additional storage.

The third day is putting the towing and performance of the 1500 EcoDiesel through the paces.  “The answer to the question everyone has been asking – how does the EcoDiesel tow?  Well that answer is a resounding – “Very well, thank you very much.”

On the last day, the 1500 EcoDiesel hadn’t even gone through an entire tank of gas.  It is with this in mind that the writer sees the largest potential for truck lovers to have interest in the EcoDiesel.  With high marks for fuel economy and for performance, the 1500 EcoDiesel comes highly recommended.

Future Ram Truck Spotted?

ram3500_exterior_13

With Fiat now having the controlling decisions in anything happening to their brands, Ram has had a question of what they will be trying to do in the future.  The influence of the European automaker can be seen blending into various models across the Chrysler family.  So far, that hasn’t really happened to any Ram trucks.  Spy photos of a mysterious prototype, however, seem to show the first combination of the companies.

Pickuptrucks.com has photos of what looks to be a new pickup being tested by Chrysler engineers.  Unlike most spy photos however, this prototype has gone to great lengths to mask its overall look.  Still, no matter how much extra is put on top of the body, it is clear that this is meant to be a new truck.

The spy who took the photos commented that they believe it appears to be based on the Fiat Strada pickup.  They say the headlights are “dead ringers for the headlights found on the Fiat Strada pickup.”  The speculation here is that this new truck could be the Fiat Strada with a Ram grille added to it.

Wild speculation is all that can really be done here.  Until more is known, this is just going to be a weird blocky black truck driving around.

Ram Diesel Engine Has High Demand

ecodiesel_engine

The move to diesel has been a popular one for Chrysler.  The reason for adding on a diesel engine option was largely due to the demand from consumers.  The addition seems to be paying off for Ram trucks as the demand seems to justify increasing the supply.

Chrysler has sent word to its supplier in Italy to send them more of the V-6 EcoDiesel engines.  It seems that people are not just asking for Ram to provide a diesel option, they are actually buying them as well.  It is refreshing to see that the consumer is wanting something and then going out and buying it rather than patting the company on the back and saying “well, thanks for doing that, I’ll think about getting it now.”

The diesel engine in the Ram full-sized pickups offers better towing and fuel economy than a gas engine.  If you are interested in learning more about the EcoDiesel engine, contact us at Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge.  View our new and used line-up on our website.  Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to see more truck news and our special monthly offers.

Ram Teases New Surprise

Ram has a mystery reveal coming up.  It seems that the truck maker has a surprise in store for fans.  Ram seems to be planned for a tad bit of a shake-up thanks to the five-year plan.  Just what could be shown off?

Ram has sent out word to a livestream event they have schedule on June 26th at 11am EDT. According to the very brief and vague description, Ram has a new product announcement they want the world to see. No clue exactly what kind of truck they are planning to show, however.

According to the plan that Fiat Chrysler laid out Ram will be giving the Ram 1500 a mid-cycle refresh for the 2015 model year. There’s a chance this might be the reveal of a new Ram 1500 to ride off the success the company had with the 2014 Ram 1500. It might also be Ram showing off newer heavy-duty trucks as part of their way to up their competition in the heavy-duty market. It may even be both.

Until this upcoming Thursday, June 26th, it is just going to be wild speculation. We can’t wait to see what Ram has in store.

Ram Trucks Headlines May Sales Increase for Chrysler

ram1500_02

The month of May was very positive for Ram.  With help from Jeep, Ram was one of the biggest reasons for Chrysler execs to be driving into work with smiles on their faces.  Thanks to Ram sales, Chrysler as a whole posted one of their best May sales in years.

The full gain that Chrysler posted was a 17% increase thanks to Ram Trucks.  On its own, Ram sales were up by 19%.  That number is the truck-maker’s best May sales since 2005.  Heavy-duty truck sales were also up by 34% for the month.

“Our Jeep sport-utility vehicles and Ram pickups continued to do well in May as our dealers reported brisk May sales over five weekends and the Memorial Day holiday,” said Reid Bigland, Head of US Sales for Chrysler, in a statement.

Ram Power Wagon’s Rich History

ram2500_exterior_02

When it comes to remembering vehicles for their military history, Jeep is usually the one that first jumps to mind.  Indeed the Jeep is the most notable and recognizable for its extended use during World War 2, but for heavy-duty jobs, a Jeep couldn’t cut it.  The Jeep was needed for its ability to transport soldiers and supplies over extreme terrain for speed, but for more soldiers and more supplies, a truck would be necessary.

The Ram Power Wagon was created back in 1945.  Soldiers returning from the war wrote to Dodge wondering where they could find trucks for civilian life like the ones they had overseas.  In responses to these requests, Dodge put together the first mass-produced four-wheel-drive truck meant for civilians.  This trucks was dubbed the Power Wagon.

Truck Trend has the rich history associated with the Power Wagon name.  It’s been in use since its inception in one way or another.  The Power Wagon name was discontinued in 1980 and reintroduced in 2005 and is still available.

2014 is when the Ram Power Wagon was given a redesign.  An all-new engine, suspension, and tires keeps the truck still capable of being at its best in a much richer competitive area.

The Ram Power Wagon has been and always will be the truck for drivers looking for added edge both on and off the road.

2014 Ram 1500 Is an American Truck

ram1500_exterior_11

There are few things that are thought of as truly “American” as a truck.  Heavy Duty, giant, and powerful are just some ways of describing these behemoths.  American auto-makers have a rich history of producing some of the most capable and long-lasting trucks on the market.  With Memorial Day right around the corner, it is time to recognize which trucks are the “most American.”

Edmunds happened to do that this year.  They put together a list of the 8 ‘most American’ trucks.  In order to make the list took more than just being built by an American company.  Edmunds took into account where the components for each truck was produced.  Other things taken into account is where the research and development occurred as well as where the profits for the sale of the truck end up at.

Placing at the number 2 spot on their list is the 2014 Ram 1500.  The 1500 has a rich history of being an American truck and has been a favorite of truck buyers for years.  The 1500 is 66 percent American derived with the final assembly of the truck being in America and Mexico.  The engine is also made here in the states but the transmission is made both here and in Italy.

Ram Commercial Truck Series Wins Fans at Truck Show

truck2 One of the best selling segments in trucks, at the moment, is the commercial segment. Ram Commercial has been working hard to produce a series of vehicles aimed to draw in new consumers. That means more though than just coming up with the best trucks but also getting word out about the quality of the product. For that reason, Ram Commercial paid a visit to the National Truck Equipment Association Truck Show to give people a glimpse of their best trucks.

Ram provided numerous ways of engaging with drivers and encouraging them to test out their heavy duty truck line. One example of this was a scavenger hunt with the Ram ProMaster. It was one part game, another part being able to discover the features of the commercial van.

Also on display was the award winning Ram 1500. The new Ram truck is always winning massive praise from truck lovers and critics alike. Just recently the 1500 was named the ‘Truck of Texas’ along with numerous truck of the year awards. With the power and comfort the 1500 can provide, it is not very surprising to see why people are in love with the truck.
