Ram Crowned Champion in Desert Duel!

Cue up the theme to The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly for this story. There was a duel in the desert. While a tad old-fashioned, the time for the showdown was even at sunrise, it seemed appropriate considering the contestants. On one end, there was the Mopar Ram Runner and on the other, there was the Ford SVT Raptor. What was this fight all about? It was all about which truck was better.

The place was the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area and both trucks were brought there by PickupTrucks.com for the purpose of crowning a champion on that day. They wanted to push both to the limit on a 4.73-mile loop on a desert course. When the dust settled, they were proud to announced that the Ram Runner was the winner!

“I was impressed with the Ram Runner’s extreme off-road capability,” said Chad Ragland, SCORE International Off-Road Racing Series Trophy Truck driver. “We jumped, slammed into mounds, cut through deep sand and it came out like a pro, rarely getting into the bumpstops or touching the skid plates.”

The Ram Runner finished a full 33 seconds faster than the Raptor. The President and CEO of Ram, Fred Diaz, chimed in on the victory, “We’re proud that – under the most punishing real-world test conditions possible – the Mopar Ram Runner takes PickupTrucks.com’s top off-road honors over the Ford Raptor. Whether you’re into desert racing, rock crawling, hunting, and fishing or just need a hard-working dependable work truck, there’s truly a Ram truck for everyone.”

Ram 2500 & 3500

Just one look at the powerhouse that is the Ram Heavy Duty Truck shows why it’s considered a legend in its class. It’s a clear sign in its design that it’s all about strength in form and features. It all begins with the big rig styling. With both the Ram 2500 and 3500, these trucks look to do more than impress you with numbers on a sheet of paper telling how much they can carry. The most obvious aspect of the exterior is the signature Ram grille which comes in either chrome or the body color. The steel and detailed hood with louvers on each side is used to hold in the possible engines. It uses a cowl screen that allows the airflow to have a smoother transition when traveling from the hood to the windshield. For added uniqueness to the Heavy Duty Truck, you can purchase a Mopar aluminum running boards to not only give additional style but also give easier entry and exit from the cab.

The engine contained within the Ram 2500 is the 5.7 liter HEMI Magnum that has 6 speed automatic transmission and 383 horsepower at 5600 RPM. For the Ram 3500, you have the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel, considered by many to be a staple for its unrivaled power and the ability to tackle the toughest of jobs. It has 350 horsepower with 800 pounds of torque showing how it earned this status. For the 2012 models of the Heavy Duty Trucks, in an effort to lower costs and give hassle free maintenance, Ram includes a class-exclusive NOX Absorber Catalyst. What this system does is regulate diesel emissions in line with EPA standards. You won’t need to worry at all about having to monitor your diesel exhaust fluid because of this.

If you’re worried all this was efficiency came at a sacrifice of comfort, don’t worry at all. The Ram 2500 and 3500 were made to be driven. The Laramie Longhorn Edition has something very unique in the form of laser-etch stitching on the leather. For the person who takes the Ram Heavy Duty to the job, the seat fabric is designed to be stain, odor, and static resistant to make sure that you have a quick and easy cleanup when the day is done. An added bonus that its effect doesn’t diminish with time. Other bonus features are a heat steering wheel, dual zone temperature controls, and soft-touch instrument panels. It’s all done with exemplary craftsmanship and care.

Ram wants to make sure that you’re protected driving to work or for the family by having 25 different safety and security features. Both the 2500 and the 3500 come standard with a set of advance multistage airbags, from the driver and front passenger to the side curtain ones. In addition to that, the safety cage of the trucks are built to endure punishment. This is because they have dynamic front crumple zones and beams built into the doors for side impacts. All this helps to deflect and absorb forces of an impact should an accident occur.

Another highlight of purchasing a Ram 2500 or 3500 for yourself is the Ram has ensured that these trucks are built to last. Durability is a word that means something to the design team, one that they made sure to test rigorously. That means that whatever your Ram Truck is meant to do, be it your choice of work vehicle or just getting the family to the Adirondacks, it’s going to spend more time on the road than in the shop. In order to make that claim, the testers at Ram have put the trucks through their paces in tests that range from 120 degrees for a desert and -20 for arctic climates. The models also include corrosion-resistant hydro formed frames. The Ram 2500 or 3500 will be with you for a long time.

Ram Cargo Van

The Ram Cargo Van has been built to meet the needs of anyone who needs room. Ram wants to convince you that having a van for a business vehicle shouldn’t be impractical. If you have a business that demands large quantities of a good to be transported throughout the boroughs, be it from Queens to Staten Island, but don’t want to trouble yourself with a traditional panel van, this is the ride for you. Built specifically for easy access and efficiency all while allowing for maximum cargo capacity. With the sliding doors, that means if you are forced to park in a place that doesn’t allow for easy access to the rear lift gate (and being in New York, that happens frequently) you can still get to what you need. The lift gate lifts high, making it very easy to get what you need without worrying about bonking your head. It’s also illuminated. To help ensure ease and safety for you, the rear lift gate has gas props that hold it firmly in place and is closed with fingertip ease.

For a vehicle like this, Ram understands that in order to stand out to the customer, that it’s all about cargo size. That’s why the Ram Cargo Van comes with space of 144.4 cubic feet. That’s got it’s competitor the Ford Transit Connect, which has 129.6 cubic feet, by almost 15 cubic feet. It also beats Ford in the area of cargo load floor area by 12 square feet, the Ram C/V having 42.6 while Ford only has 30.1. To help make sure that the vehicle matches the workload, there are plenty of options available to tailor make it to suiting your needs. One such accessories is the Mopar cargo wall that sits behind the seats to protect against any shifting the cargo may do. Another is an optional flat floor complete with storage bins for more room without losing floor space. There’s even a removable multipurpose roof rack kit.

With all this effort put into maintaining such a spacious ride, it’s a good thing to know that Ram didn’t spare any expense to make sure the driver and a passenger still get to enjoy a comfortable ride. Soft touch material is all around the cabin giving a nice feeling to anyone stuck behind the wheel during a downtown rush hour. The steering wheel is leather wrapped and comes complete with audio controls. It also features standard tilt and telescoping steering column. Storage extends to the here as well, with an open bin in the lower instrument panel and a dual glove-box. To almost an absurd degree at this point, there’s even an overhead console with cargo compartment mirror. The Ram C/V wants to ensure that while you have everything you need under one roof, it doesn’t leave you feeling like there’s no room for the driver.

The engine pumping life into into the Cargo Van is a 3.6 liter with 283 horsepower with multi speed automatic transmission. For the fuel economy, the Cargo Van has the Best-In-Class range of 500 miles. That means should your business duties take you into Manhattan, then you’ll be getting 17 miles per gallon in the city and if that same trip takes you out onto the highway then you’ll be getting 25 miles per gallon on that extended trip. This is all done with a 20 gallon tank.

Ram also makes sure that you are just as protected as any cargo riding behind you. With a unitized steel construction in all the body panels, the Ram C/V is a durable beast that gives all the strength and protection of a panel van but still manages utility. For the driver and passenger, the C/V has multistage airbags that have three different speeds of deployment dependent upon the impact.
